1. Condition et hypothèse
• On peut faire une hypothèse ou exprimer la condition grâce à des propositions subordonnées en if, comme en français.
- condition → I'll go if you come with me.
- hypothèse → If you travel to New York, bring me a souvenir!
• Il faut faire la concordance des temps, comme en français.
- pour une hypothèse réaliste :

- pour une hypothèse moins réalisable :

2. La permission
• Il existe des expressions avec if qui permettent de demander poliment la permission :
Do you mind if I sit next to you?
Would you mind if we sit together?
Do you mind if I sit next to you?
Would you mind if we sit together?
